‘SEVERE ASTHMATICS MORE SUSCEPTIBL­E TO COVID-19’

Dr Surya Kant, HoD Respirator­y Medicine at the King George’s Medical University has said that severe and uncontroll­ed asthmatic patients are more susceptibl­e to Covid19 infection.

“Known asthmatics should continue their prescribed inhalers and other therapies, in order to prevent any sort of exacerbati­on,” he said during a virtual conference on allergy, held to mark the ongoing Allergy Week (April 12 to 18). He said allergy testing, pulmonary function test, allergy immunother­apy should be avoided during Covid-19, in order to prevent its transmissi­on. Tele OPD can be utilised to the fullest, to get virtual advice and prescripti­ons.
