Active cases cross 3-lakh mark

LUCKNOW: The number of active Covid-19 cases under treatment crossed the three-lakh mark in Uttar Pradesh on Monday as the state reported 33,574 new cases, according to official data.

With 249 more deaths, the highest single-day fatality count, the statewide death toll went up to 11,414 since the outbreak of the pandemic early last year.

The state’s total Covid-19 caseload stands at 11,20,176 now. The total number of recoveries has gone past the eight-lakh mark.

“Of the total active cases, 2,49,406 are in home isolation and 6,827 in private hospitals. The remaining are in government Covid facilities,” said additional chief secretary (medical health and family welfare) Amit Mohan Prasad at a press conference here.

He said that those in home isolation could call the Covid command centres of the respective districts if they had not been provided with the medical kit.

In all, 26,719 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours across the state, taking the total number of recovered patients to 8,04,563. The state tested 1,86,346 Covid samples in the past 24 hours and a total of 3,99,57,293 samples have been tested in Uttar Pradesh so far, according to state health department data.

Among the fresh cases, Lucknow reported the most 4,566, Kanpur 2,040, Varanasi 1,838, Gorakhpur 1,539, Prayagraj 1,113, Meerut 1,290, Moradabad 1,020, Shahjahanp­ur 940, Jhansi 1024, Gautam Buddha Nagar 655, Agra 565 and Ghaziabad 370.

Kanpur reported 28 deaths, Lucknow 21, Varanasi 19, Gautam Buddha Nagar 15, Prayagraj and Meerut 11 each.

“At least 200 beds are being increased in each district and collective­ly 15,000 beds are being increased in the state,” said Prasad.
