LUCKNOW: Jhansi in the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh helped the neighbouring Madhya Pradesh fulfil some of its oxygen needs, the state government said in a statement on Monday.

This was done as Jhansi now had a sufficient amount of oxygen and two oxygen plants were set up in the district. While helping the neighbouring state, Jhansi did not compromise on its own requirements, it said.

“As many as 404 cylinders of oxygen were sent from Jhansi for the treatment of Covid-19 patients admitted in the hospitals of Tikamgarh, Shivpuri, and Niwari in Madhya Pradesh. This effort of the government saved the lives of hundreds of patients who needed treatment in these districts,” said the statement.

“The chief minister has strictly ordered to make sure proper treatment is given to Covid-19 patients so that their lives can be saved. A sufficient amount of oxygen is present in the city (Jhansi) for the treatment of Covid patients. A total of 7,821 patients are being treated in 58 hospitals of Jhansi. The officials are also monitoring over 2,500 patients who are home-isolated. A total of 20 tonnes of oxygen is required every day for the treatment of patients in Jhansi. The Medical College of Dehradun is providing oxygen to Jhansi. Also, two oxygen plants have been set up in the Goramchia and Bijauli areas of the city. Through this plant, oxygen is also being exported to Madhya Pradesh for the treatment of patients,” said Andra Vamsi, the district magistrate of Jhansi as quoted in the statement.

The statement said that one more oxygen plant will be set up in Jhansi. This will help in producing 9,000 litres of oxygen on a daily basis and the government gave Rs 85 lakh to the district for the plant.

“Apart from this, two more oxygen plants will be set up in the district hospitals which will help in the production of 5,000 litres of oxygen every day. The oxygen from these plants will be directly provided to the patient via pipeline,” the statement said.

The statement also said that a large number of Covid patients from Delhi were undergoing treatment in the hospitals of Noida and Ghaziabad. Also, patients from Uttarakhand and Nepal were getting treatment in adjoining districts of Uttar Pradesh.
