FIVE HELD FOR SELLING FAKE REMDESIVIR INJECTION

LUCKNOW: Five people were arrested here on Monday for selling low-cost antibiotic injection as Remdesivir injection which is in huge demand for treatment of Covid-19 patients, police said.

The arrest came in line with police crackdown against gangs involved in black marketing of essential drugs in the state.

Lucknow Commission­er of Police DK Thakur said, “The accused were involved in repackagin­g a low-cost antibiotic and selling it as Remdesivir injection. By doing so the accused put lives of people suffering from Covid-19 in danger.”

Police recovered 240 vials of PIP T 4.5 Gm Injection which is sold at Rs 98 in the market as well as 4224 stickers of Remedisver injection.

“The accused used to put stickers of Remdesivir on the vials of PIP T 4.5 gm and sold them at exorbitant rates. The accused used to sell one repackaged injection for anything between Rs 15,000 and 20,000. Our teams recovered Rs 81,840 in cash from their possession which they earned by selling the fake injections,” he said.

The accused, identified as Manish Tiwari, Vikas Kumar Dixit, Mohit Pandey, Praveen Verma and Abdush Sufiyan, were booked under fraud and other sections of IPC.
