ONE KILLED, THREE INJURED IN FIRING OVER POLITICAL RIVALRY

A brother of a former village head was killed and three others injured in a panchayat poll related incident of violence in Moradabad district of western Uttar Pradesh late on Sunday night, police said. ”One Uday Pal, the brother of former village head of Kaafiabad village in Thakurdwar area, was killed in firing between two groups. Political rivalry between current village head and former village head, both of whom are contesting the recent panchayat polls, led to the incident,” said circle officer, Thakurdwar, Anoop Singh.

As per the police, the incident occurred around midnight on Sunday—just hours before voting was scheduled in the district for the third phase of the fourphased panchayat polls. “Police have lodged an FIR against a dozen people from both the sides in this connection. The former village head has also lodged an FIR of murder against his rival,” Singh said.

The injured were admitted to a hospital and their conditions was said to be stable. Meanwhile, local district administra­tion has deployed a police team in the village.
