Bed availability: PGI medicos write to CM with solutions
LUCKNOW : The Resident Doctors Association (RDA) of the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences has written to the chief minister suggesting solutions to the issue of bed availability in Covid-19 hospitals, on Tuesday.
The Association called for revisiting the policy of discharging Covid-19 patients only after turning negative. They should be discharged once they stop displaying Covid-19 symptoms, the RDA said in a letter to the chief minister.
In the letter, the doctors also highlighted that some VIP patients get admitted to the hospital just to undergo tests. This practice should be discouraged as it keeps beds occupied in city hospitals.
Akash Mathur, president, PGI Resident Doctors Association, said, “A change in Covid-19 management is required to pass on the benefit of treatment to the common man in government hospitals. Currently, the common man can’t be admitted to government hospitals as most of the beds are occupied.
“Instead of wasting resources, efforts must be made for the judicious use of resources. That’s why an audit of hospitals must be carried out to see how many patients who genuinely deserve admission are admitted.
