PANCHAYAT POLLS: NO VICTORY PROCESSIONS ON RESULTS: SEC

State election commissioner Manoj Kumar on Tuesday reiterated that no victory processions were allowed in the state on the day of panchayat poll results or later. He has ordered repolling on 22 booths of the third phase elections held in 20 districts on Monday. The repoll dates will be announced later.

The third phase of UP panchayat polls on Monday saw 73.6% turnout.

Of the 22 booths that will have repolling, eleven are in Ballia, four each in Amethi and Fatehpur, two in Chandauli and one in Firozabad.

The phase covered the districts of Shamli, Meerut, Moradabad, Pilibhit, Kasganj, Firozabad, Auraiya, Kanpur Dehat, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Fatehpur, Unnao, Amethi, Barabanki, Balrampur, Siddharthanagar, Deoria, Chandauli, Mirzapur and Ballia.

Seventy-one per cent polling was recorded in the first two phases. Polling for the fourth phase will be held on Thursday and the counting will be on May 2. The Allahabad high court has asked the Uttar Pradesh government to conclude the panchayat election process by May 25.
