As the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic grips our country, vaccination has emerged as the best way to save oneself from the deadly infection. As India has already rolled out the massive vaccination drive and plans vaccine for all above 18 from May 1, we speak to a few youngsters in around the city to know their take and are they all set to be part of the drive?

Mass media student, Akanksha Mishra feels that this move was essentially required. “Allowing vaccination for all above 18 was the need of the hour. Vaccination is necessary to defeat the deadly virus. I’m happy that it’s now open for us and I’m looking forward to getting it done as soon as possible. One should not rush and believe the rumours,” she said.

Some fear the ongoing condition and want to vaccinate as soon as possible without believing the various rumours. Student Pratyush Kumar said, “I keep on getting videos and messages on social to avoid vaccine as it can have side effects, but I am unperturbed and have decided that I will take the jab any which way,”

Youngsters like Shalini are all calm as their family members have already been vaccinated and they have reasons to believe the vaccine. “Yes, I’m excited to take the vaccine. My father and mother took jabs on their turn and they are fine. It has been observed that those who take vaccine don’t develop severe symptoms even after getting infected.”

Young professional Tanay Tridal too wants to follow his senior family members as well as celebrities who got vaccinated on turn without thinking twice. For tourism professional Shavez Ahmed initially had a few doubts but after seeing countries getting mask free, he thinks vaccine is the way out. “I am aware that vaccines available are not 100% efficient but something is better than nothing. After seeing Israel going mask-free especially because it’s 81% population got vaccinated, I am inspired.” Budding journalist, Shweta Mishra believes that the youngsters are the future breadwinners of their families and so they cannot afford risking lives. “The current situation is horrific and as we know youngsters are the future of the country and they need to step out of their houses. Vaccine is the only way to stay protected from Covid-19 to good extent if not completely for now, hence I want to take the jab soon,” she said.
