FIVE OF A FAMILY DIE IN MIRZAPUR HOUSE COLLAPSE

Five members of a family died here in their sleep after the roof of their old house collapsed in Choti Gudri area under Kotwali police of Mirzapur district early on Wednesday, police said. The victims -- Umashankar (50), his wife Gudia (48); their sons Saurabh (18), Subham (22); and daughter Sandhya (20) -- used to live in a rented accommodation, police said, adding the incident occurred when they were all asleep. All of them got trapped under the debris and by the time local informed police and they reached there, all five victims had died. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has condoled the loss of lives in the incident. Mirzapur DM Praveen Kumar Laxkar along with superintendent of police Ajay Singh also visited the spot. Officials said the house was over a century old.
