600 MT oxygen supplied to hospitals, another train arrives

LUCKNOW : The Uttar Pradesh government supplied 600 MT (metric tonnes) oxygen to hospitals in the state till Thursday, said additional chief secretary (Home) Awanish Kumar Awasthi. Oxygen was supplied to KGMU and SGPGI by two tankers of 29 MT capacity.

The senior bureaucrat made the statement even as one more Oxygen Express train arrived in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday evening with around 75,000 litres of liquid medical oxygen (LMO). This was the fifth such train to reach the state.

Awasthi also said the state government was working to upgrade 84 oxygen tankers. Oxygen tankers were being airlifted from Lucknow to Ranchi, he added. The state government was working to get oxygen from Jamshedpur and another Oxygen Express will be run from there to Lucknow, he added.

Meanwhile, the railways rushed another train to Bokaro to fetch 30,000 litres more of oxygen.

Railway officials said after the Thursday’s train arrived here, the tankers left for gas stations in Lucknow and the neighbouri­ng districts soon afterwards.
