Bulandshah­r, Hapur see peaceful polling under Covid protocol

MEERUT: Barring a few incidents, polling in the fourth phase of panchayat elections in Bulandshah­r and Hapur districts concluded peacefully.

In Bulandshah­r, 62.66 percent voters cast their votes till 5 pm while in adjoining Hapur, 65 percent voters exercised their right to franchise.

Reports said a ballot box was damaged in a booth of Farida Banger village of Narsena area in Bulandshah­ar. Long queues of voters were seen outside polling booths since morning in the district.

District magistrate Ravindra Kumar, SSP Bharti Singh along with other officials visited polling booths in different blocks of the district and ensured that Covid protocol is followed strictly by voters, on duty cops and other polling staff.

The DM spotted a presiding officer in polling booth of Akbarpur in Bulandshah­r block without mask and directed the cop to slap of fine of Rs 1,000 on him. He also appealed voters to wear mask and instructed cops not to allow people without masks to vote. The officials also directed them to ensure that voters follow social distancing at booths.

In adjoining Hapur district, a NJP leader protested on some issue at Noorpur booth, but his objections were addressed by the cops on duty.
