ABA for Covid centre on Lucknow HC campus
LUCKNOW: After the Supreme Court allowed use of its campus and chambers of lawyers as Covid treatment facility, lawyers of the Lucknow bench of HC want the high court administration and the state government to follow suit.
The Awadh Bar Association, an apex body of lawyers, has already submitted a formal application to the Allahabad high court administration and the state government to start a Covid treatment centre on the sprawling Lucknow high court campus for lawyers.
However, the state government is yet to take a decision in this regard.
The ABA has suggested that if there is any problem in reserving the facility at the Lucknow high court campus only for lawyers, then they have no reservation in allowing general public to get treatment here.
“The Supreme Court has allowed its campus and lawyers’ chambers at its new additional building complex at Pragati Maidan to be used as Covid care facility for lawyers, court staff and their families. They why cannot such a centre come up at Lucknow high court,” said HGS Parihar, president, ABA.
Parihar also pointed out that if the state government had any inhibitions to reserve such a facility only for lawyers, then the latter had no problem if general public also got treatment at this facility.
“Now, when the apex court has given its consent to run Covid centre on its new campus, why cannot such a medical set-up come up at the Lucknow high court? For want of timely medical aid, many lawyers have succumbed to Covid -19 all across the state,” said Prashant Singh ‘Atal’, co-chairman, Uttar Pradesh Bar Council.
“We have written a letter to chief justice of Allahabad high court and the state government to start Covid -19 at Lucknow high court for lawyers. The government must take decision in this regard without any delay,” added Singh.
