Top UP officials meet govt assns’ office-bearers, assure all help

: Top UP government officials on Saturday held a meeting with the office-bearers of different government staff associatio­ns ahead of ahead of counting of panchayat election votes in the state, assuring them that all Covid protocols will be followed during the counting.

LUCKNOW : Top state government officials on Saturday evening held a meeting with the office-bearers of different government staff associatio­ns ahead of ahead of Sunday’s counting of panchayat election votes in the state, assuring them that all Covid protocols will be followed during the counting.

The meeting was attended by additional chief secretary, appointmen­t and personnel, Mukul Singhal; additional chief secretary, home, Awanish Kumar Awasthi, state election commission­er Manoj Kumar and director general, school education, Vijay Kiran Anand.

The aim of the meeting was to build confidence among government teachers and other staff who are engaged in counting duty.

The officials read out the Covid guidelines to be followed at the counting sites. Uttar Pradesh Shikshak Mahasangh said the officials gave them all possible assurances. Dinesh Chandra Sharma, president, Uttar Pradesh Prathmik Shikshak Sangh, said teachers will abide by the court order and take part in the counting. However, if the teachers felt that Covid protocols were not followed, they will boycott counting, he added.

Representa­tives of Uttar Pradesh Prathmik Shikshak Sangh, Rajya Karamchari Sanyukta Parishad, UP Madhymik Shikshak Sangh, Rajya Karamchari Mahasangh and class four employees’ union took part in the meeting.

Earlier, various UP teachers’ organisati­ons had threatened to boycott the counting alleging tha t over 700 state government school employees on panchayat poll duty succumbed to Covid in Uttar Pradesh in April. In their letters to the state election commission, Uttar Pradesh Shikshak Mahasangh and Karamchari-Shikshak-Pensioners’ Adhikari Manch had said their members will not turn up for counting duty.
