GMC WITHDRAWS HOARDINGS WARNING PEOPLE NOT TO CLICK CREMATION PICS

LUCKNOW: The Gorakhpur municipal corporation (GMC) on Saturday put up banners and hoardings warning people of action if found taking photograph or making videos of the cremation of dead bodies at Mukteshwar ghat located on the banks of the Rapti river.

The GMC however withdrew the hoardings after photos of it warning people that taking photographs or making videos of the cremation of bodies was a punishable offence went viral on social media and received widespread condemnation.

People criticised the GMC for the warning and members of social organizations alleged that it was aimed at hiding the number of deaths. “The assembly of the onlookers or the people making videos often caused traffic chaos on the bridge,” the officer said.
