LUCKNOW: With COVID-19 cases still rising exponentially, the health department on Sunday announced to start a special drive to identify people with symptoms in rural areas of Uttar Pradesh.

“As part of the special campaign, the frontline workers from the health department will visit homes and find people with clear symptoms of Covid from May 4 to May 8,” said Amit Mohan Prasad, additional chief secretary, medical health.

The state reported 30,983 fresh cases, taking the total Covid case cross 13-lakh mark on Sunday.

State’s total Covid count reached 13,13,361 while with 290 fresh fatalities, the death toll has reached 13,162.

“People should go for Covid test if they have symptoms. They can start home isolation medicines if they have symptoms without waiting for test report as these medicines will benefit,” said Prasad.

According to an estimate by the health department, 50% of the fresh Covid cases are coming from rural areas.

“This is the result of state’s aggressive test, track and trace policy that we are getting less cases as compared to states which have less population than UP,” said Navneet Sehgal, additional chief secretary, information, in a press conference.
