Young Covid army out to help the ill

LUCKNOW : A group of 35 students of Lucknow University is leading an effort for fund raising to distribute medicines, ration and other supplies.

Calling themselves the Covid army, they also supply leads on oxygen and medicine availabili­ty. They are sharing contacts through digital medium. Devansh Krishna Srivastava, BA honors political science student, is leading from his hometown Ayodhya. Ayushi Tripathi from Balaganj area was able to encourage 160 people to get vaccinated. Reaching out in multiple ways, most of the young people are academical­ly hard working and active members of Sanskritik­i, LU cultural team.

“The pandemic has not been kind to many of us. But if you are determined to help someone no situation is out of bounds. We have supplied food and clothing and found time to play with children in tough living conditions,” said Devansh.

This group from different colleges of Lucknow started a unique Open Covid Health Mission, in which contributi­ons from students and their families helped around 35 families in Covid healthcare.

“We thought of starting this initiative when we saw helpless people crying out for help. I personally had Rs 7000-8000 and I have given it all to help people in crisis. Many other friends also contribute­d,” he said.

“So far in one way or the other, we have collected and provided around Rs 27,500 to 35 different people across the state,” he said.

The students have also created several groups in which verified and continuous leads of all resources are being shared with people across India, as per Devansh.

Other crusaders

Animesh Upadhyay, national executive committee member of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad and Heramb Verma, convener -Think India, Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University said they had provided beds, oxygen and essential medicines in hospitals with a helpline number issued for immediate help.

Other members are also helping people in every possible way. The young group was giving necessary informatio­n to people through social media, Upadhyay said.
