LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav and Congress state president Ajay Kumar Lallu attacked the government on Tuesday over Covid spreading to villages.

Akhilesh Yadav said that “the lies of the BJP government that in UP Covid is negligible is proving extremely deadly in villages.”

In a tweet in Hindi, Akhilesh said: “The spread of Covid to villages is extremely worrisome. When people do not get the simple fever medicines in villages due to extreme scarcity, how can one expect oxygen, beds and vaccines there. BJP’s lies that Covid is negligible in UP is proving extremely deadly in villages.” Ajay Kumar Lallu said in a statement that apart from the cities, now Covid was fast spreading in villages in all districts. There was no arrangement for RT-PCR tests there. Hospitals had no beds, oxygen or life-saving medicines.

Even as the state is in the grip of the second and more intense Covid wave now, reports are surfacing regarding Covid spread in villages with the fourphased panchayat polls from April 15-April 29 being considered as a superspreader.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered extensive Covid testing and tracing drive to be launched in the UP hiterland from May 5--after the end of the counting of votes of panchayat polls. The counting began on May 2.
