UP SEES ITS HIGHEST SINGLE-DAY DEATH COUNT OF 357

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday reported 357 more deaths, the highest single-day fatality count in the state so far, and 31,165 new Covid-19 cases, about 5,000 more than the number reported the previous day, according to official data. (The state had recorded 25, 858 new cases and 352 deaths on Tuesday).

Kanpur reported the maximum 46 deaths and Lucknow 38 on Wednesday. The statewide death toll has reached 14,151. It includes fatalities since the beginning of the pandemic last year.

The statewide tally of cases since early last year has gone up to 13,99,294.“The number of recovered patients is 40,852, which is 9,687 more than the number of new cases reported today,” said additional chief secretary (medical health and family welfare) Amit Mohan Prasad.

Lucknow reported the maximum 3,004 fresh cases, Kanpur 1,206, Ghaziabad 1,373, Gautam Buddha Nagar 1,703, Meerut 1,732, Varanasi 966, Gorakhpur 1,055, Jhansi 934, Prayagraj 437 and Agra 302, according to state health department data.

Ghaziabad reported 13 deaths, Gorakhpur and Jhansi 12 each and Gautam Buddha Nagar 10, according to the data.

The state has till now tested over 4.2 crore (4,20,32,587) Covid samples, including 2,32,038 in the past 24 hours, according to official data.

“The number of active cases under treatment is 2,62,474 of which 2,12,232 are in home isolation,” said Prasad.

“Lucknow has till now reported 2,19,816 covid cases of which 1,86,093 have recovered and 1,943 deaths have been reported. The recovery rate in Lucknow is 84.65%,” said Abhishek Shukla, secretary general, Associatio­n of Internatio­nal Doctors.

While 4,878 patients recovered in Lucknow in the last 24 hours, 3,004 new cases were reported. The number of active cases under treatment is 31,780 at present in the state capital. A former senior physician of Balrampur Hospital, who was working in Gonda district, was among those who died.
