SP DOES WELL IN KANPUR REGION
KANPUR: The Samajwadi Party has put up an impressive show in the Kanpur region and went neck-and-neck in Bundelkhand with the Bharatiya Janata Party in the recently concluded panchayat polls, data gathered from the 15 districts of Kanpur and Bundelkhand regions reveal.
The Bahujan Samaj Party trailed in the districts, once thought to be its pocket borough, settling with 62 seats out of 338 seats in nine districts in Kanpur region and 148 seats of Bundelkhand. The party drew a blank in Mahoba and Fatehpur where it was a strong force once. While the SP marched ahead with an impressive 122 seats in Kanpur region, the BJP bagged 62, the BSP 31, Congress 4 and independents 106. The SP performed better than the expectations in Etawah where it won 20 of 24 seats and the BJP could win just one. Similarly, the party won 15 out of 30 seats in Fatehgarh. The BJP gave a tough competition in the SP bastion Kannauj, where the SP won nine and BJP seven, and Hardoi where the SP got 17 and BJP 14. Aam Admi Party also won three seats in Hardoi.
