65 fresh deaths, 1865 cases in Lucknow

DURING THE DAY, LUCKNOW REPORTED 1865 FRESH CASES, WHICH WAS 1139 LESS THAN WEDNESDAY’S FIGURE

LUCKNOW : The state capital on Thursday registered 65 fresh fatalities, its highest in a single day since the pandemic began last year. With that, the death toll in Lucknow crossed 2K mark, 2003 to be precise, according to the data released by the health department.

During the day, Lucknow reported 1865 fresh cases, which was 1139 less than Wednesday’s figure. The number of active cases reached 29827, majority of whom are in home isolation.

Commenting upon the fresh cases and death figures, Prof Kauser Usman, HoD geriatric medicine at the King George’s Medical University, said, “Fall in fresh cases can be attributed to the restrictio­ns imposed in the state on public movement, while rise in number of deaths means the severity of the disease hasn’t gone down.”

“Lucknow has till now reported 221678 covid cases, of which 189848 have recovered. The recovery rate is 85.64%,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general of Associatio­n of Internatio­nal Doctors.

Fresh cases came below 2000 after a gap of 30 days, while during the day 3755 patients recovered in Lucknow. Over 25000 covid samples were tested in the past 24 hours.

: With the state reporting 26780 fresh cases on Thursday, covid cases in Uttar Pradesh crossed the 14-lakh mark . It took the state 430 days to reach the total of 14,25,916 covid cases. The first case was reported on March 2, 2020.

The death toll in the state reached 14501 with 353 fresh fatalities reported during the day.

Lucknow reported maximum 1865 fresh covid cases , Kanpur 782, Ghaziabad 953, Gautam Budha Nagar 1227, Prayagraj 517, Meerut 1167, Varanasi 796, Jhansi 717. Lucknow reported maximum 65 deaths, Kanpur 49, Meerut 12, Muzaffarna­gar 21, Jhansi 12, Prayagraj 8, Varanasi 10, according to the data from the health department.

“Number of active cases has gone down by 50939, as compared to 310783 on April 30,” said Amit Mohan Prasad, additional chief secretary, medical health, in a press conference on Thursday. The state has tested 4,22,58,373 covid samples till now, including 2,25,670 in the past 24 hours.
