LUCKNOW: The Sikh community of Bareilly has started an ‘oxygen langar’ at Guru Gobind Singh Inter College in the city to help patients suffering from Covid-19 and are in dire need of oxygen.

Surjeet Singh, an office bearer of local Sikh association in the city, said, “The service began in the morning and is aimed at providing free oxygen to people in need.”

Due to lack of other emergency services at the centre, the organisers are only accepting patients with a little drop in their oxygen levels. Severe patients are being moved to hospitals, he said.

A total of seven people availed the free of cost service on the first day. “The service will especially benefit people who travel from nearby districts to Bareilly and have to wait hours before getting admitted in a hospital. For this, we first provide service for four hours, which may be increased if needed,” said Singh.

Besides ‘oxygen langar’, the volunteers from the Sikh community are also providing free food and basic medicines to people tested Covid-19 positive and their families.
