BSP performance in rural polls encouraging, claims Maya
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Thursday claimed that her party’s performance in the UP panchayat polls had been encouraging despite misuse of official machinery and power by the ruling party as well as use of money power by rival parties.
She said the victory of her party candidates in the panchayat election had infused a new energy, vigour and courage among the party workers before the crucial 2022 UP assembly polls. The BSP chief called upon party workers to start preparations for the next year assembly election.
She reviewed her party’s performance in the panchayat election at her residence in Lucknow. In a press statement, she thanked voters for supporting the BSP candidates and also the party workers who worked hard to ensure the victory of party-supported candidates in rural polls.
Mayawati claimed that majority of independent candidates who emerged victorious on reserved district panchayat, khestra panchayat wards, gram pradhans and panchayat members belonged to the BSP. In the absence of a consensus on the reserved seats, several party members contested election as independent candidates and emerged victorious. On unreserved
seats, there was no division of votes and the party candidates performed well, she said.
Except a few districts, the BSP fared well across the state. The performance was tremendous in Agra, Mathura, Meerut, Bulandshahr, Ghaziabad, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Shahjahanpur, Moradabad, Kanpur Dehat, Jalaun, Banda, Chitrakoot, Lakhimpur Kheri, Hardoi, Sultanpur, Balrampur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Maharajganj, Azamgarh, Mau, Prayagraj, Bhadohi, Mirzapur and Chandauli districts, she further claimed.
The party workers followed the Covid protocol during the campaign and the good performance of the party clearly showed that they worked hard. Had the panchayat election been free and fair and if the rebel BSP candidates had not contested, the party’s performance would have been much better, she said.
The party leaders and workers should take lesson from the panchayat election and bury their differences to ensure party’s victory in the 2022 UP assembly polls, Mayawati said
