PRAYAGRAJ : Covid samples of 610 suspected patients have been collected and tested in the first two days of a five-day mega testing drive launched in 3,178 villages of 23 development blocks of Prayagraj district on May 5.

Based on the principle of test, trace and treat, the aggressive drive is being undertaken with the help of special teams of medical and paramedical staff assisted by accredited social health activist (ASHA) workers.

“This house-to-house survey will continue till May 9 as part of a statewide effort to identify suspected patients of coronavirus, test them and ensure treatment/medicines/admissions of those found infected and in need.

A detailed micro-plan has been prepared for this mission and it is according to this that the exercise is being undertaken,” said Dr Rishi Sahai, the district Covid nodal officer.

“The first two days of the exercise has yielded detection of around 1500 people with influenza like illness (ILI) symptoms in the rural areas of the district. Of them, rapid antigen tests of 348 and RT-PCR tests of 262 suspected patients have been performed and the rest would be tested today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday),” he said while adding that the data of Covid positive cases found among these suspected patients was yet to reach him.

However, he said on May 5, 11,743 tests were performed in the entire district in which 683 people tested positive.

On May 6, 12,255 tests were done which saw 645 people testing positive.

Dr Sahai said over 4,100 rapid response teams (RRTs) were presently scouring the district’s hinterland as part of the house-to-house initiative, covering all the villages located in the 23 development blocks of the district.

“One team has been deputed for every 1000 members of the population having at least two members, including a local ASHA or anganwadi worker, schoolteacher or member of the local nigrani samiti. Each team will be dedicated to a specific designated area undertaking house-to house visits between 8am and 2pm each day,” he added..
