22 kids among 28 test Covid+ at Mathura children’s home

AGRA : Twenty-two children and six staff members of the state children’s home in Mathura have tested positive for Covid in the reverse transcript­ion polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test conducted on them. Nearly 80 children reside in the home there.

“These children are in the age group of 6 to 10 years. Fortunatel­y, none of them is in a serious condition. Doctors of the district hospital are monitoring their condition. If the condition of any child turns serious, they would be admitted to the district hospital,” said Dr Bhoodev, Mathura’s deputy chief medical officer.

“We have been conducting tests at ashrams, nari niketan and jails where inmates are residing in groups. A team of the health department visited the Raj

kiya Shishu Grih and collected samples of all inmates and staff, which were tested through RT-PCR method recently. The reports of 22 children were positive. They have been isolated from other inmates through creation of a containmen­t zone at the children’s home and medicine kits have been made available to them,” he said.

Six other staff members of the children’s home also tested positive and were asked to isolate themselves with treatment, he added. Two days ago, the health department had also conducted sample testing at the state juvenile home where 52 of 71 inmates were found positive, the deputy CMO said.

Meanwhile, a press release from the office of the chief medical officer in Mathura stated that 333 new Covid cases were detected in the district in the last 24 hours. “The total number of cases has risen to 16,854 in Mathura district, out of which 13,638 have been discharged after recovery. In all, 193 people have succumbed to Covid till date. There are 3,023 active cases in the district,” the press statement said.
