LUCKNOW : Uttar Pradesh has banned inter-state operations of government and private buses with immediate effect in a bid to contain the possible transmission of Covid infection from passengers coming from other states.

Earlier this week, the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) had suspended operations of its buses to other states.

“Government or private buses from other states will not be allowed to enter Uttar Pradesh in view of growing Covid infections,” said Dheeraj Sahu, transport commissioner and UPSRTC managing director. The ban, he said, would continue till further orders.

Around 2,500 government and private buses from neighbouring states—Delhi, Haryana, Uttarakhand, MP, Rajasthan, Bihar and Chhatisgarh make trips to various UP cities every day.

“We also operate almost as many buses in these seven states every day, Sahu said.

“Neither will we send our buses to these states nor will allow their buses to come to Uttar Pradesh,” he added.
