Fall in fresh cases in Lko, but deaths remain a concern

Lucknow reported on Sunday 1436 fresh cases, taking the covid case tally to 227352. It also reported 26 fresh deaths, taking the death toll to 2088 so far.

This is second time in a gap of three days that Lucknow recorded a dip in fresh cases. On Sunday, fresh cases were 743 less than previous day while on May 6 state capital had reported 1865 fresh covid cases, which was 1139 less than May 5.

The number of active cases under treatment has now come down to 23609 (29827 on May 6) and majority of them are in home isolation. During the day, the health department teams collected over 22000 covid samples in the city.

“The recovery rate in Lucknow is 88.69%,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general of association of international doctors.

Doctors said that despite the fall in fresh cases, the number of deaths remain a concern. “The number of deaths suggest that despite fall in fresh cases the severity of the disease remains high,” said Prof Kauser Usman, HoD, geriatric medicine at the King George’s Medical University.

He said, “Even those vaccinated should adhere strictly to covid protocol.”
