Covid patient’s kin accuses hospital of malpractice

- :

“My mother lost her battle against Covid on April 30. But I would not like anyone else to face exploitation as I had to when I was seeking medical care for her,” stated Ila Singh, a resident of Lucknow, in her complaint to the Covid helpdesk of the district administration. She mentioned how she was illtreated and made to pay exorbitantly at a private hospital.

“My 57-year-old mother tested positive and had to be shifted to a hospital in Kapoorthala area late on April 29 night. But she was admitted only after I paid Rs 50,000. That was not all. By next afternoon, I had paid almost Rs 1.50 lakh only to be told to take her away and what happened during the night was horrible,” she Ila. Later, my mother succumbed to Covid, she added.

“After admission, the doctor said the patient won’t survive. My mother, being a diabetic, wasn’t given any medicine for it. And while in hospital, her oxygen level kept falling. When we took her out soon, oxygen level came up surprisingly,” she wrote in her complaint, blaming doctor and hospital management for poor care and malpractice.

“They didn’t give us a bill. People should not be exploited. Hence I filed this complaint and have been assured of a probe,” she said.
