LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said that paediatric ICUs with a capacity of a minimum 10-15 beds in all district hospitals and 25-30 beds in medical colleges should be set up.
Given the assessment of experts, the state should make special arrangements in all districts for the protection of children from Covid-19, he said.
“There should be a minimum 100-bed paediatric ICU at divisional headquarters. Necessary medical equipment, medicine, etc should be made available. Physicians and other staff should be trained in this regard. This work should be done fast,” Yogi said at the Covid review meeting with Team-9.
The CM also emphasised that the extensive “trace, test, track, treat” campaign was on in the rural parts of UP with the aim of breaking the chain of corona infection and keeping villages safe from Covid-19 infection.
The campaign, currently on in all the 97,000 revenue villages in the state, was showing positive results. “The World Health Organization (WHO) has also praised the campaign today,” he added.
WHO tweet on rural screening campaign
In a tweet on Sunday night, WHO mentioned: “UP has initiated house-to-house active Covid case tracing in rural areas to contain transmission by testing people with symptoms for rapid isolation, disease management, and contract tracing.”
The tweet also has a link for an article (dated May 7) posted on WHO website, which talks about how the campaign was being run. The article also says: “WHO, which supported the UP government in training and micro-planning for the activity, now has fielded officers on the ground to monitor and share real-time feedback with the government for immediate corrective action to ensure quality.”
Yogi directed Team-9 that the campaign should be conducted with full preparedness. An antigen test of every symptomatic/ suspected person should be done and the number of RRTs (rapid response teams) should be increased.
Taking about the latest numbers, Yogi said: “On April 30, there were 3,10,783 active Covid cases in the state. Today, the number has come down by more than 95,000. At present, there are 2,16,057 active cases in UP. The state’s recovery rate is getting better. So far, over 13.13 lakh people have successfully won the battle with corona.”
“Monitoring committees are doing door-to-door visits in villages and screening people. These committees provide medical kits to home isolated patients and other people with suspected symptoms, as required. Provide the name and phone number of the monitoring committees to whom the medical kit is being provided, to the Integrated Covid Command and Control Centres (ICCCC),” he said.
The details should be made available to local public representatives through the district magistrate so that MPs/MLAs can get medical kits and communicate with people. This will also enable cross verification of the system.
He said ventilators/oxygen concentrators had been provided in all districts and ACS (health) and principal secretary (medical education) should ensure that these devices are operational.
‘UTTAR PRADESH MOST VACCINATED STATE’
The chief minister said UP was the most vaccinated state. So far 1,39,08,152 doses had been administered and vaccination of the 18-44 age group was now being conducted in 18 districts. On May 10, 50,157 people in this age group were inoculated. Thus, more than 1.66 lakh people aged 18 to 44 had been vaccinated in the state. “Vaccine waste is also declining in this age group. Currently, it is 0.6%,” said Yogi.
OXYGEN SUPPLY
The chief minister said work was being done with full commitment to improve oxygen supply and distribution system in the state. All districts were being supplied oxygen as per the requirement.
In the last 24 hours, 1,011 mt of oxygen had been distributed in UP. Of this, 632 mt was supplied to refillers and 301 mt to medical colleges. Yogi said establishment of oxygen plants should be expedited and oxygen supply should be made by making separate action plans for all districts.
The sugarcane development and excise departments had also given support to oxygen production and supply. “Action is being taken to set up oxygen plants in 70 districts,” he added.
“Oxygen plants are also being set up by the private sector. They should be provided all necessary facilities as per rules. For the treatment of Covid, contributions can be made through MP/ MLA fund for air separator unit, setting up of oxygen plant, etc,” said the CM.
