Yogi dials AMU VC, discusses Covid-19 situation

Following reports of death of several staff members at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in past weeks, chief minister Yogi Adityanath spoke to vice chancellor of the University Tariq Mansoor over phone on Tuesday.

The chief minister asked the VC to ensure measures to prevent Covid-19 infection in staff members who live on university campus. The CM stressed on the need to increase vaccinatio­n among people between 18 to 44 years and assured all possible help from the government to break the chain of Covid-19 infection.

AMU vice chancellor Prof Tariq Mansoor later said in a tweet, “I briefed the CM on COVID situation at AMU and Aligarh, including sad loss of precious lives at AMU.”

“The CM assured full support and extended condolence­s to AMU and bereaved families of AMU staff. Also informed him about our efforts to motivate AMU staff for getting vaccinated.”

He said Union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank also spoke to him telephonic­ally today. “I briefed him on concerning COVID situation at AMU & Aligarh, including sad loss of precious lives of AMU staff; need of continuous oxygen supply and remdesivir drugs to JNMC, AMU.”
