LUCKNOW : It’s going to be a different Eid-ul-Fitr this time, with no new clothes and some Muslims vowing to distribute 50% of the festive budget among the needy.

“It’s a good gesture. I think each one of us should come forward to help society in fighting the contagion. Of our festival budget, we plan to distribute half as food and sweets among poor children and will help them celebrate the day too,” said Bilal Arshad, a young city entrepreneur.

Similarly, other youth too have geared up to do their bit for society on the occasion of Eid. Some said they would distribute sweets, others clothes among the needy, while still others said they would be sponsoring the studies of poor children.

A few families said that they will distribute ration among poor families.

Earlier, clerics in the state capital had issued an advisory urging Muslims to keep Eid celebrations a low-key affair and to lend a helping hand to the poor and needy.

“Nothing is bigger than helping the needy. Hence, we have urged people not to be extravagant this Eid and to distribute 50% of the Eid budget among the poor,” said Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali, Imam Eidgah and senior member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), who issued an Eid advisory, listing dos and don’ts.

In the advisory the Sunni cleric also urged people to not to take or give ‘Eidi’ (a small token of love, mostly money

given by elders to children on the festival), instead give to needy children, in order to bring a smile to their faces. “It’s a tough situation for young and old alike. Hence, the purpose behind giving Eidi to needy children is to spread happiness among them,” the maulana

said.

Similarly, Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawad too asked people to keep Eid celebrations low key and to stay indoors and strictly follow Covid-19 protocols. “People are requested to help people in need,” Jawad said.
