Western disturbances bring rain, respite from heat to Lko, nearby dists
: Rain accompanied by strong winds in Lucknow and nearby districts brought much needed respite from the streak of sultry weather, on Wednesday evening. Almost all parts of the state capital received heavy rain that began around 8PM.
The rain caused by Western Disturbances resulted in a drop of temperature in the region. JP Gupta, director, UP meteorological department, said, “Rain was recorded in Lucknow and nearby areas. Rain accompanied by hailstorms were also reported from some parts.”
The turn of weather over Uttar Pradesh was caused by changes made by Western Disturbances. The disturbances resulted in rain in several East UP districts on Tuesday night, followed by rain in the Central and Western part of the state on Wednesday.
The Met department has issued an alert of strong winds accompanied by rain in 12 Central and Eastern UP districts including the state capital. Acting on the warning, the administrations of the respective districts have been put on alert for the next 24 hours.
“Western Disturbances are caused by the flux of cold moist air that moves inward from the Bay of Bengal and hot dry air moving from West. The disturbances are caused at a height of 3.1 to 5.4 kilometres in the atmosphere which is ideal for causing rain,” Gupta explained.
Meanwhile, the state capital recorded a maximum temperature of 37.3 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, which is 2.1 degrees lower than normal, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 26.5 degrees Celsius, 2.3 degrees above normal. Banda in Uttar Pradesh recorded the maximum temperature in the state with mercury reaching 41.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Kanpur that recorded 40.4 degrees Celsius.
