Opposition attacks govt over ‘WHO praise’ of Covid handling
LUCKNOW: Opposition parties, including the Samajwadi Party, Congress and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), have attacked the Uttar Pradesh government over its claim of “praise by WHO (World Health Organisation)” and termed it “shameless and useless”. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav in a statement said “The BJP government, by faking statistics and getting a ‘medal’ of praise from WHO, does not feel any pain, remorse or shame looking at the gory pictures of bodies floating in the Ganga and vultures and eagles scavenging on them. The BJP can’t see the funeral pyres burning at cremating grounds. It can’t hear the wails of relatives at hospitals. The chief minister has no compunction in adopting any means to hide his failure.”
National spokesperson of Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) Anupam Mishra said he does not trust the article of WHO praising the state government related to testing and tracking in rural UP.
Congress UP spokesperson Anshu Awasthi said “In UP, Covid horror is at its peak. There are no beds, no oxygen, no medicines. People are dying in hordes. Dead bodies are piling at cremation and burial grounds and floating in rivers. But this failed and the shameless government was patting its back using the WHO report.” In a recent tweet, the WHO had said, “In #India’s most populous state UP, the state gov. has initiated house-to-house active case-finding of #COVID19 in rural areas to contain transmission by testing people with symptoms for rapid isolation, disease management & contact tracing.”
