28 clot cases detected in US after J&J jabs
Twenty eight people in the US developed blood clots with low platelets after receiving Johnson & Johnson’s Covid-19 vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The 28 cases were identified out of 8.7 million doses of J&J’s vaccine administered in the country, the CDC said in a presentation on Wednesday.
Norway, meanwhile, will drop AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine from its immunisation programme over fears of rare sideeffects, and will keep Johnson & Johnson’s Covid vaccine suspended, its government has announced.
Canada’s Ontario province has halted the use of doses of AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine, also over fears of possible blood clots. The announcement that Ontario won’t roll out the vaccine came from its chief medical officer of health, David Williams.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Wednesday announced a “full and independent” public inquiry into his government’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, set to begin in the first half of 2022.
