32 inmates of Lko shelter home test +ve; isolated a week later

LUCKNOW : A mentally challenged inmate, two pregnant women and 29 other inmates of the Balika Balgrah, Motinagar, have tested Covid19 positive. Though the inmates tested positive on May 7, they could be shifted to an isolation ward in Nirala Nagar area, only on Thursday. The virus outbreak at the shelter home has posed a severe threat to other inmates. As per records, 65 other inmates were in contact with the infected inmates.

A mentally challenged inmate, two pregnant women and 29 other inmates of the Balika Balgrah, Motinagar, have tested Covid-19 positive. Though the inmates tested positive on May 7, they could be shifted to an isolation ward in Nirala Nagar area, only on Thursday.

“The 32 inmates of Balika Balgrah in Motinagar area tested positive on May 7. Of them, 29 were shifted to the makeshift isolation ward, establishe­d at Saraswati Kunj in Nirala Nagar area. However, the remaining three inmates including two pregnant women and one mentally challenged have been isolated at the Balika Balgrah itself,” said Jai Pal Verma, in-charge, district probation officer (DPO).

The virus outbreak at the shelter home has posed a severe threat to the other inmates. According to shelter home records, 65 other inmates were in contact with the infected inmates. The DPO in-charge said the testing of other inmates will be done on Saturday. He said that he was still clueless how such a huge number of inmates got infected, despite following strict Covid-19 protocols. Altogether, the city has around 31 homes which include shelter homes, observatio­n homes and women’s shelter homes.
