Now, four bodies found floating in Ganga in Chandauli

VARANASI: Days after bodies of suspected COVID-19 patients washed up on the shores of the river Ganga in Ghazipur and Ballia districts, four more unidentifi­ed bodies were found floating in Ganga in Dhanapur area of Chandauli district on Thursday, claimed locals.

After seeing the bodies in Ganga in Badaura Ghat area of Chandauli, locals informed the administra­tion.

Thereafter, a team of officials reached the spot. An official of the district administra­tion said the bodies appeared to be over a week old.

Last rites of the bodies were performed along the river Ganga.

A vigil will be maintained along the river to ensure that no one immerses body in the river, said a senior official. Chandauli shares boundaries with Ghazipur district where over two dozen bodies were found in last three days.

Over 40 bodies were also found floating in the river in Ballia district.

The incidents have sparked fears about the scale of the Covid crisis in the country.
