MUKHTAR TESTS NEGATIVE AFTER 17 DAYS

Gangster-turnedpoli­tician Mukhtar Ansari, who was brought to Uttar Pradesh to be kept in Banda prison since April 7, recovered from Covid-19 infection after undergoing treatment for nearly 17 days, said UP prison officials here on Thursday.

Ansari was tested positive for Covid-19 infection during routine antigen test of the prisoners conducted on April 26. Later, the RTPCR report also came positive on April 27, and he was in isolation under supervisio­n of team of doctor since then.

Director general (DG) prison, Anand Kumar said Ansari was kept on medical assistance available at the Banda jail and he recovered well. He said Ansari was still in isolation and his health was being monitored continuous­ly. Ansari, who is the sitting BSP MLA from Mau, was shifted to Banda prison on April 7 after his stay in Punjab jail for over two years.
