Three arrested for raping woman in Sonbhadra forest

VARANASI: Three persons have been arrested for allegedly raping a woman, 23, in a forest in Dharatitad area under Beejpur police station of Sonbhadra on Saturday, police said.

According to the police the victim’s father made a police complaint in which he said that the incident occurred when his daughter and her fiancé were returning after visiting a temple situated on a hilltop in the forest. A police officer said that the victim’s father named three youths, including Shyam Lal, Munni Lal and Angad, all in their late twenties, of stopping his daughter and raping her after threatenin­g to kill her fiancé.A case under section 376 D (gangrape), and 506 (criminal intimidati­on) of IPC and Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (prevention of atrocities) Act has been registered against the three accused, said superinten­dent of police, Sonbhadra, Amarendra Prasad Singh.

Singh who also visited the crime spot said that all three accused have been taken into custody and were being interrogat­ed. Circle officer Ram Ashish is investigat­ing the matter. Station officer Beejpur Devtanand Singh has been instructed to ensure strict action, the police official said.
