LUCKNOW : While hailing the state government’s decision allowing schools to resume online classes from class 9 onwards from May 20, the Unaided Private Schools’ Association (UPSA) has demanded resumption of virtual classes for all students.

“It being already a limited instructional time period during online education, how will it be justified for students to teach them for fewer days and even lesser hours,” said UPSA president Anil Agarwal.

“It is a complete violation of the fundamental right of education for students in a way. Hence, the government should think over it and permit online classes for all the students of all classes. Much intervention by the education department in private school education is not good. Schools across UP should resume online classes,” he added.

City Montessori School (CMS), Lucknow, also expressed its happiness over resumption of online classes. “We are thankful to the government for allowing us to resume online classes from May 20. Majority of our parents are in favour of resumption of online classes. It is a welcome move which is being appreciated by teachers, parents and even children,” said spokesman for CMS Rishi Khanna.

Meanwhile, La Martiniere Girls’ College has decided to resume online classes for class 11 students. On the other hand, GD Goenka Public School has announced summer vacation following surge in Covid cases. “We will resume online classes from June,” said Sarvesh Goel, the chairman of the school.

On Saturday, the state government issued instructions to resume online classes for classes 9 to 12 from May 20 in all educational institutions.

The order, issued on Saturday, has cleared the decks for resumption of online classes from Class 9 onwards to degree and post-graduate level in degree colleges and universities. Students from classes 1 to 8 were exempt from online classes due to a surge in Covid-19 cases.

Earlier on May 10, the state government had announced that all schools up to class 12 will remain closed till May 20 and there will be no online classes during this period.
