LUCKNOW: Senior nodal officer for Covid-19 Roshan Jacob on Monday issued a letter to chief medical officer (CMO) of Lucknow Dr Sanjay Bhatnagar asking him to lodge FIR against three private hospitals accused of charging more than prescribed fee from Covid patients.

“It is expected that the process for FIR against the identified hospitals is done today itself and the information along with FIR copy be submitted to this office. In case of noncompliance, the state administration will proposal for departmental action against you,” said the letter issued on Monday.

The three private hospitals in Lucknow were identified on May 12 after complaints from the patients’ attendants. The health department was asked to file an FIR against them.

“The probe is going on and FIR will be filed only once the probe against the three hospitals is completed,” said the CMO. He said the allegations were being probed to ascertain whether hospitals charged extra from patients against the rule under the epidemic act.
