Ever since the second wave of the pandemic hit the country, filmmakers and other artistes undoubtedly lost that last glimmer of hope they had. And after the announcement of the second lockdown, it has only been a game of wait and watch. Filmmaker Raaj Shaandilyaa says, as artistes, the experience has been bittersweet. “Even when it (lockdown) was announced last year, everyone realised one thing - i.e we now have time to write. We always say that we need time for writing scripts. So, I’m sure everyone used that time to write,” he says.

But for the Dream Girl (2019) director that is not the be all and end all of things. “For a filmmaker, only writing will not give the creative satisfaction he/she seeks. A filmmaker is satisfied only when what he wrote, translates perfectly on the floor,” he says. Yet, the experience has come with its own sets of lessons. He says, “My biggest learning in these times is that I’ve realised the difference between what’s need and what’s want.”

As for the future of the industry, he links the adaptability of the industry to that of its relentless pursuit for excellence. “The world is seeing a different face of Hindi film industry on OTT platforms. As of now, I feel, no one can decide the future of the industry. But I am quite confident that if not in one or two, then definitely in three years everything will go back to normal. But one thing is quite evident, on OTT, the creativity that content creaters have showcased, is quite commendable. They have utilised the platform quite fruitfully,” he concludes.
