TAUKTAE TO CAUSE HEAVY RAIN ACROSS UP: IMD
LUCKNOW : A day after Cyclone Tauktae made landfall on the country’s west coast, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rainfall and associated weather disturbances across Uttar Pradesh for the next two days. The adverse weather conditions will be caused by the cyclone and approaching western disturbances, the IMD said.
The conditions will lead to heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Northern Parts of West Uttar Pradesh on May 19 and 20, while heavy rainfall is likely to occur over north-central parts of Eastern UP on May 19, the IMD statement read. Heavy rains will be accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places with gusty winds over the next three days.
Considering the forecast, the district administrations across the state have been alerted to take steps to minimise damage caused by the weather. “We are monitoring the changing weather conditions closely and are in touch with district officials to minimise any kind of loss due to extreme weather,” said JP Gupta, director, state MeT department.
Meanwhile the change in weather conditions brought down temperatures across the state. In Lucknow, the maximum temperature fell to 30.6 degrees Celsius which was 9.3 degrees Celsius below normal, while the minimum temperature was 25.6 degrees Celsius. Banda district in Bundelkhand region recorded the maximum temperature across the state where mercury touched 35.2 degrees Celsius.
