LUTA opposes adoption of common minimum syllabus
LUCKNOW: The Lucknow University Teachers’ Association reiterated its opposition to the common minimum syllabus designed by the state government, saying it was not up to the university’s standard.
However, the Lucknow University administration claimed that all departments will approve the syllabus with changes. The common minimum syllabus drawn in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020, has been sent to all state universities for approval.
Claiming that the common minimum syllabus does not meet the standard of the university, Vineet Verma, president, LUTA, said, “The common minimum syllabus designed by the state government is not up to the standard of LU. Deans of most departments have expressed this concern before the Board of Studies on Monday and also in a meeting chaired by the V-C on Tuesday.”
The higher education department of the state in April directed all state universities to include at least 70% content of the common minimum syllabus with relaxation to include 30 % content of their own.
Meanwhile, the Lucknow University
administration claimed on Tuesday that all departments will approve the syllabus with changes.
“An extensive discussion on the common minimum syllabus of various courses recommended by the department of higher education, Uttar Pradesh was done in a meeting chaired by the vice-chancellor. Departments including education, commerce and agriculture have approved their syllabus by the board of studies after minor corrections. Other departments will also approve their syllabus after the necessary amendments which can be a maximum of 30%,” said Durgesh Srivastav, spokesman, LU.
