Nurse who treated Boris Johnson quits job

-

A nurse who had looked after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in a hospital’s intensive care ward while he battled Covid-19 is leaving her job, with a newspaper saying she had become fed up with the UK government’s treatment of health care workers.

Jenny McGee from New Zealand was one of two nurses singled out for praise by Johnson for the care during his spell at London’s St Thomas’ Hospital in April last year when he had said the National Health Service (NHS) saved his life.

“We’re not getting the respect and now pay that we deserve. I’m just sick of it. So I’ve handed in my resignation,” The Guardian quoted her as telling a Channel 4 TV documentary to be aired on May 24.

The report said McGee was referring to the government’s proposed pay rise of 1% for NHS staff, which many critics have described as insulting.
