UP logs 7,336 fresh cases, lowest since April 30; 282 more deaths

LUCKNOW : Uttar Pradesh’s Covid-19 tally rose to 16,44,849 on Wednesday with 7,336 fresh cases, the lowest single-day rise since April 30, while 282 more fatalities pushed the death toll to 18,352, as per the health department.

“A total of 2,99,327 Covid tests were done in the past 24 hours, and this is the highest in a day. The number of patients recovered crossed the 15-lakh mark and reached 15,02,918,” said Amit Mohan Prasad, additional chief secretary, medical health, in a press conference on Wednesday.

“The positivity rate is 2.6%, and it has come down from 20%,” said Prasad. He said the recovery rate of the state was now 91.4% and active cases had declined by over 1.87 lakh in the past 19 days. On April 30, there were 3,10,783 active cases, which had now come down to 1,23,579, said Prasad.

There are 7,917 active cases under treatment in Lucknow and the recovery rate is 95.64%, said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general, Associatio­n of Internatio­nal Doctors.

Lucknow reported the maximum fresh Covid cases – 493 followed by Gautam Buddh Nagar 355, Saharanpur 344, Meerut 342, Gorakhpur 309, Ghaziabad 307 and Kanpur 123, according to the state health department data. Lucknow also saw the maximum deaths – 29, followed by Agra and Etah 14 each, Meerut 13, Ghaziabad 12, Kanpur eight, Gautam Buddh Nagar five, Prayagraj and Gorakhpur four each and Varanasi eight, according to the data. As many as 18 districts reported zero deaths.

Isolation beds vacant Over 65% beds at Covid facilities in the city are vacant, but most of these are isolation beds while ICU and high dependency unit (HDU) beds still remain mostly occupied, as per the data on the portal on bed availabili­ty of the medical health department.

HCL’s gesture

HCL has provided six ICU ventilator­s, 20 oxygen beds and a mini oxygen generator plant (capacity of 45 litres per minute) to Fatima Hospital in Lucknow. In a press statement, the company said HCL has extended its Covid-19 mitigation efforts across the country.
