State capital on 5th spot as fresh Covid cases fall below 300 after seven weeks

LUCKNOW: The daily Covid-19 case count fell below 300 in Lucknow on Friday after a gap of nearly seven weeks, according to official data.

With 286 new cases, the state capital figured in fifth position for the first time since April 1 in terms of fresh cases among all UP districts on the day. Lucknow had remained on top of the daily Covid case charts for most of the last one year.

In the past 24 hours, Lucknow also reported 12 more deaths due to Covid complicati­ons.

On March 27, there were 273 fresh Covid-19 cases in the state capital after which the numbers kept rising and reached over 5000 in a day in April.

“There are 6,631 active cases under treatment in the state capital that has till now reported 2,35,897 covid cases of which 2,26,925 have recovered. The recovery rate is 96.19%,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general, Associatio­n of Internatio­nal Doctors.

As many as 1046 more patients recovered on the day in Lucknow and this was more than three times the number of fresh cases. Ghaziabad reported 1003 fresh cases, Gorakhpur 892, Meerut 427 and Saharanpur 287 in the past 24 hours, according to official data.

“This fall in fresh cases has been steady, but we still have a good number of patients admitted and our movement is restricted. We need to understand that even if allowed to go out, we need to ensure our practices including Covid protocol, thereby restrictin­g the spread of the infection,” said Dr Sandeep Kapoor, director, Healthcity hospital.
