Probe ordered after video of cops beating up youth surfaces

LUCKNOW : An inquiry has been ordered after a video surfaced showing four cops mercilessly beating up a youth with a baton in Krishna Nagar area of the state capital on Wednesday night, officials said on Friday.

The incident occurred at Jai Prakash Nagar colony under Krishna Nagar area when one Shekhar Gupta was going to a medicine shop to buy some medicines for his seriously ill friend, said a local requesting anonymity.

He said the police personnel beat up Gupta with a baton causing him serious injuries, following which he was rushed to King

George Medical University for the treatment.

Taking cognizance of the video footage of the incident that was grabbed in a CCTV installed on the roadside and went viral on social media on Thursday. In a tweet, the Lucknow police stated that assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Krishna Nagar has been asked to conduct an inquiry into the incident and action would be taken on the basis of its findings.

Earlier, chief minister Yogi Adityanath had directed the state police to handle public with compassion after some similar incidents.
