: The Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday announced a further extension of the ongoing partial corona curfew till 7am on May 31.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath made this announcement at the Covid-19 review meeting here. The curfew was otherwise due to end at 7am on Monday (May 24).

“The partial corona curfew gave a positive outcome statewide and it has been helping in breaking the chain of infection. The people, too, have been cooperating well. The number of active cases of corona has been falling steadily. Considering this, the government has decided to extend the ongoing curfew till 7am on May 31,” he said.

“Vaccination, industrial activities, medical and healthrelated services and movement, and other important and essential services will continue,” he added.

Initially, the partial corona curfew began at 8pm on April 30 and was due to end at 7am on May 4 but was extended several times.

Yogi Adityanath also said the state government had already

announced the oath-taking of newly elected gram pradhans (village heads) and panchayat members and their first meeting will be held virtually. (The swearing-in is scheduled on May 25-26 and the first meeting on May 27). The administration in all districts must ensure the event took place without compromising on Covid safety protocols, he added.

“In village panchayats, the role of the gram pradhan is very important. The government expects them to play a very active role in these Covid times. Nigrani samitis (monitoring committees) have played a very creditable role in safeguarding villages from corona. After the oath-taking, the village heads will also take responsibility as the head of the committees in respective villages. The panchayat members, too, will become a part of the committees and wherever possible also include former village heads,” he added.
