: Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday attacked chief minister Yogi Adityanath over his visit to Saifai, the ancestral village of the SP’s Yadav family, in Etawah district. “After neglecting Saifai for four years out of vendetta politics, the chief minister now remembers Saifai. This long delay indicates his compulsion,” he said.

LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday attacked chief minister Yogi Adityanath over his visit to Saifai, the ancestral village of the SP’s Yadav family, in Etawah district. He accused the chief minister of indulging in political tourism after neglecting the village for four years.

Yogi visited the Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences in the village on Saturday.

“After neglecting Saifai for four years out of vendetta politics, the chief minister now remembers Saifai. This long delay indicates his compulsion. Does he not know that his government paid no attention to health facilities in Saifai and the rest of the state? And now the ill-effects of the neglect are visible across the state. His government had cut the health sector expansion and budget of Saifai. He did not do any work in Saifai, then why did he visit the village?” the Samajwadi Party chief asked.

He further said, “Even in this time of the pandemic, the chief minister, instead of ensuring coordination between the administrative and health machinery to save peoples’ lives, is busy in political tourism.”

The medical university (originally a super-speciality medical institute) in Saifai was established during the tenure of Akhilesh’s father Mulayam Singh Yadav as the UP chief minister.

Akhilesh also said the claim that UP was number one in Covid vaccination was false.

“The truth is that only 33 lakh in UP could get their second dose. According to the union health ministry, UP lags far behind states such as Maharashtra and Rajasthan in vaccination (in percentage of the population vaccinated). The government has been hiding its failures. If this is the pace, then how would it fulfil the aim of vaccinating all by Diwali?” he asked.

In an attack on Twitter earlier in the day, Akhilesh Yadav asked the BJP government to make operational those health centres that were opened during his regime.

“…If BJP government shuns politics and starts the cancer institute in Lucknow and other modern health centres in Jhansi, Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Sitapur, Budaun, Saharanpur, Lakhimpur, Ayodhya, it will save lives of thousands,” he said in a tweet in Hindi.

“The impact of Covid isn’t just a question of health, but the economic devastation is just as significant. Post Covid, we need leadership that can help build back UP’s economy and attract investment,” he said in another tweet.

The SP leader also tagged a news report titled “Bangladesh beats India in per capita income” with his tweet.
