Formula proposed for rural mortality

MEERUT: Swaraj Party chief and Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) member Yogendra Yadav says he has developed a “simple calculator” or formula to know the reality behind deaths in villages. Yadav claimed, “The calculation is very simple.”

He also said he had demonstrated it by collecting data of five villages of UP and “the same calculations could be applied for any state.”

He explained that after collecting data of population (including children) and total deaths (any type of death) in a village, these two numbers needed to be added separately.

“Then find out the deaths per thousand population using the formula [Total deaths÷ Population of the village × 1000= Deaths per thousand population],” he said.

“Thereafter, analyse it on the scale of points —1 point [Normal or even better], 1.5 points [more deaths than normal], 2 points [double than normal deaths – worrisome], 3 points [Triple the normal deaths- dangerous] and

4 points [you think yourself],” he said. Yadav explained that one death reported among 1000 person in 50 days in India was normal.

He then calculated figures of five Uttar Pradesh villages, which included Chhoti Pahi of Unnao district, Harakhpur of Pratapgarh, Nahauri of Bulandshahr, Bhagwanpur of Varanasi and Arnawali of Meerut.

The suggested formula gave 3.5 points, which was “dangerous” according to the scale mentioned by him.

Yadav suggested that villagers calculate number of deaths in villages on the basis of this formula to know the reality in villages and also share the same with him through social media.
