LUCKNOW : Any decision on UP Board and universities’ exams will largely depend on the outcome of a virtual meeting convened by union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ with education ministers and secretaries of all states at 11.30 am on Sunday.
Deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma, who is also minister for secondary and higher education, said, “I was asked to attend the meeting with secretaries on Sunday. We will then discuss it in detail with chief minister Yogi Adityanath to take a final decision on examination for UP Board and universities.”
“We will soon take some decision for our UP Board high school (class 10) and intermediate (class 12) examinations. As many as 56 lakh students have registered for this year’s UP Board exams which were deferred on April 15 due to surge in Covid cases,” Sharma said.
Union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ in a tweet said, “All the state government education ministers and secretaries have been requested to attend this meeting and to share their valuable views with regards to upcoming examinations.”
“The consultative process will be further strengthened through a high-level meeting to be chaired by defence minister Rajnath Singh, also to be attended by my cabinet colleagues Smriti Irani and Prakash Javadekar,” Nishank said in a tweet.
When asked about the role of other three union ministers in the meeting, Sharma said, “Both Prakash Javadekar and Smriti irani were union HRD minister in the past and Rajnath Singh was education minister in UP in the past. Maybe, Pokhriyal ji wants to take their opinion too.”
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has desired that any decision affecting the careers of students has to be taken in wide consultations with all the state governments and stakeholders. I recently held a meeting with the state education secretaries in this regard,” Nishank said in a tweet.
The education minister asked all stakeholders to send their suggestions. “Friends, I need your valuable suggestions too. You can send them on my twitter handle,” he wrote on twitter.
This year, 29,94,312 examinees, including 16,74,022 boys and 13,20,290 girls, have registered for the high school exam. Similarly, 26,09,501 examinees, including 14,73,771 boys and 11,35,730 girls, have registered for the intermediate exam.
Last year, the UP Board exams began on February 18 and concluded in the first week of March before the lockdown was imposed. This year, the exam was delayed by nearly two months as schools remained closed for months in the wake of the pandemic.
